There’s a haven in Nashville where fans of independent movies and music can enjoy indie and foreign films and musical performances from lesser-known artists: the nonprofit Belcourt Theatre in Hillsboro Village.
On the weekends the theater shows classic movie favorites, ranging from tributes to old-time stars such as Audrey Hepburn to popular musicals such as “Singin’ in the Rain.”
The Belcourt, with its curtain-flanked walls and fold down seats, also hosts live music shows in various genres, art viewings and special screenings. Despite going through several name changes in its 75 years, and the threat in recent years of a permanent closing, the theater has endured and hails as one of the last neighborhood theatres and preserved cultural icons of Nashville.
Memberships to the Belcourt are available, offering perks ranging in movie, event and merchandise discounts.
For more information, visit the theatre’s Web site at www.belcourt.org.
