Songwriters will gather at the seventh annual Nashville Songwriters Festival on Music Row June 19–21 for a chance to network, attend workshops and hear original music.
Hundreds are expected at the event in the alley between 50 Music Square W and 56 Music Square E, which will feature workshops with successful songwriters, producers and others in the music business.
The weekend will kick off Friday morning at 9 with a discussion about life in the music business led by Grammy Award-winning Richard Adler, a music engineer and producer, and Dave Gibson, former lead singer of the award-winning Gibson/Miller Band. Gibson will share some of his insights on music and the business and will play some of his most notable works, including Red White and Blue Collar and Texas Tattoo.
Experts in entertainment law will be on hand Friday afternoon to talk about copyrights, rules on co-writing and collaboration, publishing, artist deals and digital rights. Short concerts of original music on the stages in the alley will wrap up the first day.
An open house will begin on Saturday morning and last through the end of the festival. Festival goers will be able to drop by participating recording studios, publishers, publicists and other trade-related music businesses on or near Music Row. These businesses will have an “open door policy” from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday for free tours, to answer questions and to allow participants drop off and pick up samples of each other’s work.
The festival will be sprinkled with live music — especially at the close of the sessions — and Q&A segments with songwriters, booths and guitar workshops. Tickets start at $50 and the event is open to the public. For more information and to register for the festival, visit the festival’s Web site.
